PALAPA

PALAPA

Identity, Collaterals
Mexico

Palapa is a slow fashion brand that goes back to basics, by redesigning traditional sandals from Mexico —known in Spanish as huaraches— to reconnect with our roots while rethinking the way we dress and the pace in which we live. A modern huarache is elevated with the highest quality materials and next-level comfort. An everyday staple that can be dressed up or dressed down. Palapa leather sandals are woven by hand in small batches, in a female-led ethical workshop in Mexico.

Inspired by the slow life in the Mexican Tropics, we created a unique wordmark that draws inspiration from posters and ephemera from the Acapulco golden era. The sun —is also a traditional woven fan, paired up with a set of vintage seals that communicate the brand voice across collaterals. A lush landscape illustration echoes these vibes with simple sophistication and charm. Tropical nature as an ethereal landscape to be in.

Identity, Collaterals
Mexico

Oriana Rodríguez is a Mexican designer that combines traditional leather craftwork, with some touches of Wixárika artisanal embroidery and a French savoir-faire. Her creations use geometry and bold designs, to dress up or dress down, as the day unwinds. A signature piece for any look.

The bespoke letterforms reflect the brand’s thoughtful attention to detail and timeless simplicity. We created a monogram that highlights craftsmanship and quality. A typographic combination of sans serif fonts balances old-world sensibilities with a modern take. The color palette is minimal, so products can shine through and be relevant. The use of materials such as a beeswax seal on the envelope, cotton paper, and blind embossing, create a tactile stationery that elevates the shopping experience.

Branding, Packaging
United Kingdom

VUI VUI is a luxurious natural range of skincare essentials, created in small batches using only natural botanical ingredients ethically and sustainably sourced in the UK. As a flight attendant, founder Carl Sung, a.k.a. Vui, has always been inspired by his travels and nature, from the Siberian wilderness to unseen tropical rainforests. VUI VUI’s collection nourishes, soothes, and cleanses the skin, free of harmful ingredients.

For this project, we created everything from identity and packaging, tagline, and photography direction, helping the brand bring a timeless experience to any skin routine. The brand symbol is a butterfly in full flight, as a representation of positive change and self metamorphosis. For the packaging, we created a set of original botanical illustrations that feel sophisticated with a modern take. Color use is bold, distinctive and helps differentiate each product across categories

The Lost Explorer Mezcal

Mexico, UK

The Lost Explorer is an artisanal handcrafted mezcal made from 100% agave, cultivated in the sun-soaked Valles Centrales, Oaxaca, Mexico, that celebrates the Earth and the diversity and wonder of the sacred agave plant.

It all began as a curiosity of time and the earth. This curiosity led David de Rothschild and Thor Björgólfsson, founders of the brand, to produce a small batch mezcal, as a tribute to empowering sustainable Mexican enterprise whilst also protecting the craft, heritage and biodiversity of Mexico. Made in tune within the rhythm of Nature, each small batch is distilled by Maestro Mezcalero Fortino Ramos, with a sustainable approach that honors our artisanal mezcal methods. The Lost Explorer Mezcal range consists of three uniquely profiled varietals – Espadín is the core expression, sitting alongside two rarer wild varietals, Tobalá and Salmiana. Time slows, heart warms. Each sip transports you to a world of senses beyond.

The rich fauna and mystic aura of Oaxaca were the main inspiration for the brand, so we revisited traditional alebrijes of this Mexican region, and elevated them with a contemporary take inspired by Guadalupe Posada’s etchings, for a global audience. We invited Daniel Barba to create the set of illustrations featured in the labels and collaterals. Each mezcal expression is represented by a unique alebrije that creates a sense of curiosity: wild pig, jaguar, and cockerel. The agave age in years communicates the time the agave has grown in Nature. The brand’s symbol represents the 4 main elements of its origin: sun, mountains, water, leaves.

As a homage to the brand name, the label artwork makes echo of vintage explorer guides, typographic legacy from lost maps, cabinets of wonders, collections of curious objects, and forgotten apothecary labels.

Curiously Oaxaca, its people and Nature, myths and mysteries, rituals and food— all woven together in beautiful alchemy.

Soonā

Soona

2019
Identity, Collaterals
Mexico

Soona, moon in Otomí indigenous language.

Our aim was to design an identity that would stand out from the typical yoga studios. We wanted to make a nod to Otomí artisan heritage, by integrating some florals and animals into the mark and identity patterns. The symbol is the abstraction of a bunny in a meditative posture, nurtured by the moon, in a continuum cycle of peace and contentment. Typography is minimal with a slight reference to a crescent moon.

The pastel-coloured blue, mineral grey and white, create a calming effect, inspired by Ayurvedic practices.

Soona, a window into oneself discovery through yoga practice.

Fork

Identity, Collaterals
Mexico

Fork is a brunch atelier that brings together Parisian heritage with Mexican breakfast tradition. Located in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the brand identity embraces romantic and nostalgic feelings of chic cafes, along with interiors that pair different materials for a cozy atmosphere.

As the brand symbol, we created a bespoke letter F with a French styled fork. We designed a set of various stamps, that could be used across collaterals, such as menus, coasters and stationery. A custom script gives the final touch of warmth to the restaurant. Slightly textured papers and foiled details, help to communicate the care that is taken with the cooking and the service at Fork.

Amper

Amper

2019
Identity, Collaterals
Mexico

Love has evolved, and so have weddings and celebrations of love. Gone are the days of stiff attitudes and posed photography. Jacquie, Amper’s photographer and founder, seeks to bring authenticity and charm to one of the most important days in a couple’s life.

We created the name, Amper (ampere in English), which is the base unit of electric current in the International System of Units. Staying away from love clichés, we wanted to communicate the deep sensations of being in love in a new way, just like an electric jolt.

A unique wordmark celebrates this bold, true spirit, along with a fine wave that softness the identity. Some nude hues here and there, bring out a gender neutral look and feel.

Little Prince

Little Prince

2019
Identity, Collaterals
United States

Little Prince is a charming neighborhood bistro in the heart of Soho, New York City, that features non—classique French bistro selections like a signature French Onion Soup Burger with caramelized onions and gruyère.

Little Prince holds a frequently rotating wine & beer program, highlighting unique French and local beers and seasonal French cocktails. Dramatic floral arrangements accent the light-filled space, with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out on to bustling Prince Street. Caramel banquettes line the walls and the wooden bar is warmly lit by classic glove pendant lamps. Hand-painted ceramic floor tiles complete the bistro ambience.

When we were asked to redesign Little Prince identity, we were delighted to bring a little French finesse to the bistro. We designed a custom wordmark that depicts this spirit, followed by a set of collaterals including menu, business cards and labels for their cold brew drink. We were inspired by the classic Breton shirt with blue stripes, added a touch of red and paired it with some quirky wording set in a contemporary use of type.

Little Prince Bistro Non—Classique, cozy, adorable, fun.
